Strength of Schedule Rankings for Teams Ahead of Georgia in CFP Bracket

If the season ended today, the Georgia Bulldogs would be the No. 11 seed in the College Football Playoff (CFP) bracket, facing a tough road matchup against the No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions in the first round.

Georgia’s path to a first-round bye looks challenging. With SEC play completed, the Bulldogs must rely on other teams’ results over the coming weeks to determine their SEC Championship fate. To secure a playoff spot, Georgia will also need to beat Georgia Tech unless they claim the SEC title outright.

Despite their efforts, the CFP selection committee seems to undervalue Georgia, ranking them lower than both the AP Poll and the US LBM Coaches Poll. The committee appears to prioritize win-loss records over factors like strength of schedule, ranked wins, and strength of record.

Georgia boasts the toughest strength of schedule in the country, and their 8-2 record reflects that difficulty. Few teams ranked ahead of Georgia could achieve the same success with such a challenging slate. Only the Oregon Ducks hold a stronger strength of record, further highlighting the Bulldogs’ impressive performance.
